I tried Tinder and happn for a week, and here’s what happened

I’ve been single since forever, and it’s not because I never find any guys I like… it’s because I lack the confidence to go up to them and flirt. I’m just a bit shy when it comes to meeting guys. So, I turned to the biggest dating apps out there: Tinder and happn.

I’d heard heaps about both of the apps, and I know plenty of my mates here in Melbourne use at least one of them. So I decided to give them both a red hot go and see what happened. I gave myself a week with each app to see if there was much difference. And holy moly, was there a difference.

Monday7:45pm: I really couldn’t face the teasing from my colleagues, so I postponed my experiment until after work. Now I’m home and watching The Bachelor while I create my Tinder profile. Just started swiping, and wow, there are some douchy-looking guys on here. I’ve never seen so many country chat apps free male mirror selfies in my life.

pm: Still here, still swiping. I feel like there are so many idiots on here, and so many don’t even have a bio. How am I supposed to know if I want to know more? Alright enough of this for today, I’m going to sleep.

Tuesday8:20am: Woke up to so many messages and matches this morning, yikes. All that swiping last night seems to have had an impact. Well, good thing I’m on the tram to work and have nothing else to do, since I’ve got a lot of replying to do. Actually there’s one guy that seems quite cool.

6:40pm: Again, I didn’t want to get busted using Tinder by my colleagues, so I waited until I was home to open the app again. Not all the guys I’m matching with seem to be overly chatty, but I’m having a few conversations. The guy from this morning, Daniel, seems pretty keen.

Wednesdaypm: Just checked my phone and I’ve got like five new followers on Instagram. How weird. In fact, that’s actually kind of creepy.

8:04pm: Crazy day today and just checking Tinder now. Daniel has asked if I want to do drinks on Friday!

Thursdaypm: I was swiping on Tinder tonight and I matched with this hot Irish guy. 10 minutes later he sends me this:

Friday5:03pm: I was able to knock off work early today, so I’m on the way home to get ready for drinks with Daniel. We’re meeting at a bar on Chapel Street, which is perfect since it’s near mine and gives me a chance to change.

6:13pm: WTF? I was just about to message Daniel telling him I was leaving mine, and then he messages and says he got caught up with colleagues and asks if can we meet later. I told him no, since I’m not just waiting around until he’s free. I’m super pissed off now.

My friends recently suggested that I start using dating apps, and they’re probably right

7:49pm: Okay so Daniel apologised, he said it was a whole thing he just couldn’t get out of, and to please give him another chance. I still want to meet him, so I agree. We’re doing drinks tomorrow night instead.

Saturday7:10pm: Urgh, I’ve been here at the bar for 10 minutes, and he’s running late. Oh is that him? Yup, that’s him.

I’m pretty sure they’re guys from Tinder that I matched with, but we never talked

pm: So, the drinks with Daniel was really fun, except I’m not totally sure it ended well. We had good conversation and everything, but it got really weird towards the end. It was still early, but he seemed pretty keen to leave, and then asked me where I live. When I said I live near the Coles (which is super close to where we were), he said he’d walk me home. But the closer we got to the door, I realised he thought he was coming in with me. I like him and all, but I don’t want to sleep with him after one date. I just said I was tired and I’d talk to him tomorrow, and he kind of huffed and walked off. Not sure what that was about, maybe he was drunk?
